Lot 261

1831 N-10 R3 PCGS graded MS62RB. PCGS graded MS-62 Red & Brown. Large Letters Reverse. Frosty mint red fading to steel brown, at least a third of the mint color remaining. A speck of greenish verdigris at the rim left of the first S in STATES and a streak of darker toning slanting under the N in CENT are the only significant marks. Unfortunately this cent was poorly struck, especially on the portrait. The strike is quite similar to what you so often see on the N-3, N-5, and N-7 Small Letters Reverse cents of 1829. Late die state with a rim cud break at star 9 and a die crack from the first S in STATES along the wreath to the dentils over the left side of the O in OF. Late state examples of this variety usually come softly struck, but the strike on this example is especially weak. Ungraded by Noyes due to the strike, but his photo # is 55083. Our grade is MS60. PCGS Population 1; 1 finer in 66RB.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex Tony Terranova.
