Attica, Athens. 186-86 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.85g). New Style. Head of Athena-Parthenos wearing triple-crested helmet right. Reverse: Owl standing on prostrate amphora right, head facing, inscription and elephant in field, all within laurel wreath. Cf. SNG Cop. 212. Superb Extremely Fine.
Estimated Value $600 - 800.
The magistrate of this issue is Antiochus IV Epiphanes who, before his accession to the throne of Syria in 175 BC, issued this series as an Athenian magistrate in 176 BC.
