Petrified Jurassic Pine Cone. This exquisite 2.7 x 2.1 inch 160 million year old pine cone from Patagonia, Argentina has been cut in half and polished to reveal the inner beauty of the silicified seed kernels fossilized intact within. The inner core is a light brown and the seeds and outer areas range in several hues from tan to orange. The outer surface of the pine cone has been preserved with excellent detail. This rare preservation came from some giant Araucaria mirabilis pine trees that were buried under volcanic ash. There is great demand for these beautiful pine cones as the site has been closed to collectors.
