Dragonfly from Solnhofen. This 150 million year old dragonfly is beautifully preserved in the fine grain lithographic limestone matrix. The rare species Protolindenia wittei is one of the largest and most dramatic. Perfectly positioned on a 7.5 x 6.5 inch limestone matrix, this huge dragonfly has a 4 inch long body and each wing is 3 inches long. The head, antennae, three legs, body ending in two hooks, and amazing wing detail make this dragonfly one of the finest to be found from the famous lithographic limestone quarry of Solnhofen where the first bird fossils were found.
