280 Million Year Old Amphibian With Skin. All fossils of the first amphibians are rare and found in only a few locations in the world. Amphibian fossils that still preserve their skin structure are even rarer. The best preserved amphibians come from a site closed to collecting for over 20 years in the Odernheim Pfatz in Germany. This large 9.5 inch long amphibian, Actinodon on a 17 x 11 matrix is nearly complete, missing only a few bones in all of the four limbs but possessing a large two inch skull with sharp pointed teeth as well as the all important skin impressions which show skin texture and patterns.
