1844 N-5 R1. MS-63. Frosty bluish steel brown with 25% of the original mint red remaining on the obverse and traces of faded mint color showing through on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal is excellent. The best identifying marks are a thin, barely visible diagonal nick on the cheek right of the upper lip and a speck of dark toning in the dentils right of star 12. M-LDS, die state c. The repunching on the first 4 is clear. Tied for CC#3 with several other examples of the variety. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS64BN (NGC label included).
