Lot 40

1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0. VF-25. Reverse of 1803. Sharpness VF35 but a mark on the chin was carefully smoothed away leaving a very shallow depression in that spot, and there is a rim nick at the L in LIBERTY. Retoned a slightly glossy dark olive and steel with traces of chocolate brown on both sides. Extremely faint roughness is well hidden under the dark patina. EDS, Manley state 1.0. The date and legends are bold and the overdate is obvious. This is the plate coin in the Breen encyclopedia for his die state II and is plated in the Manley book to illustrate die state 1.0. Not perfect but still a sharp, attractive example of this popular overdate variety. Weight 84.9 grains.
Estimated Value $8,000 - 10,000.
