Lot 337

1797 NC-5 R6. About Good-3. Sharpness VG8 or so, perhaps even better on the reverse, but the rims were tapped all the way around, then flattened creating very wide rims that impinge on the legends and base of the date. Fortunately everything remains easily readable, only RTY offering a bit of a challenge. The surfaces are dull thanks to uniform fine granularity and there is a shallow dent on the eye. Dark reddish chocolate brown. In spite of all this joy, the details are relatively clear, especially on the reverse, and the attribution points are clear. A scudzy piece for sure, but you may not get another chance at this variety.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.
Discovered unattributed by Henry T. Hettger.

Realized $483
