Lot 325

1796 S-88 R4 Liberty Cap. Fine-12. Slightly sharper but the planchet is covered with microscopic roughness, strongest on the reverse where there are a few tiny specks of reddish verdigris. Glossy dark olive and steel, the obverse displaying more gloss than the reverse. A tiny rim bruise at the top of the cap is the only contact marks, and it is wholly insignificant. The date is bold and the legends are strong except for the usual weakness inside the wreath. Called F15 net VG10 in the Noyes census, his photo #55003.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.
Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 1/25/04:1227-Walter Husak.
