Lot 29

1795 C-6a R2. EF-45. No Pole with Thin Planchet. Struck over a cut-down Talbot Allum & Lee Cent. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate with a large splash of darker chocolate brown toning on the obverse. Satiny mint luster covers the reverse which has mint state eye appeal. The only marks are a few microscopic rim nicks, none notable. Traces of the undertype TAL cent show in the dentils below the date and in the field behind the portrait as well as in the dentils over ED in UNITED. Struck slightly off center to K-9.5 leaving some of the dentils off the planchet but the legends are comfortably secure. LDS, Manley state 2.0, with minor swelling near the dentils right of the Y in LIBERTY. A sharp, very attractive example that has fared quite well in whist matches for many years and the at the Half Cent Happening featuring this variety at the 1990 EAC Convention. Weight 84.6 grains.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 7,000.
Acquired circa 1984-85 at the Silver Dollar show bourse in St Louis, MO.

Realized $10,350
