Great Britain. Crown, 1551. S.2478; Dav-8245. Edward VI, 1547-1553. Third period. Fine issue. King crowned and in armour, with a sword over his shoulder, galloping right on a richly ornamented horse, date below. Reverse Long cross fourchee over royal shield. This was indeed the first English silver Crown and the first dated English coin. Natural striking flaw on edge at 1 o'clock, otherwise well struck example. Becoming quite difficult to find in top grades. Attractively toned. NGC graded EF-40.
