AR Shekel (13.67 g) dated year 4 (69/70 C.E.). Temple vessel with rim decorated with nine pearls; above, date. Reverse: Stem with three pomegranate fruits. Mesh1 158. H-665. Very rare and quite difficult to encounter this ch Extremely Fine.
As the Jewish War continued, coinage became more difficult, accounting for fewer and fewer shekels and divisions being minted. Full shekels are very rare, with only a handful of silver half shekels being unearthed. Much more often seen are the subdivisions struck in bronze dated year four.
