1867 $20 Liberty. NGC graded AU-53. Some luster remains on this post-Civil War era double eagle. 1867 was made famous when three days after President Andrew Johnson fired his Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton's, the House of Representatives impeached Johnson for intentionally violating the Tenure of Office Act. Early in 1868, the Senate voted. As the Constitution requires a two-thirds majority for conviction in impeachment trials in the Senate, Johnson was acquitted when the vote came up short (PCGS # 8951) .
