Lot 1080

1893-S Morgan Dollar. NGC graded AU-50. Only 100,000 pieces minted. Some luster still intact around the devices. Untoned. Well struck and retaining its beautiful original light silver color is seen throughout Liberty and the fields around and corresponding locations on the reverse. The '93-S dollar is, of course, the mainstay of Morgan dollar collecting, fairly obstinate when it comes to wheedling out a higher grade specimen from the buckets of more worn examples that pervade the coin bourses. Strictly graded AU pieces like this are seldom offered nowadays. Even with the five-fold spread in price between EF and AU condition the collecting demand for the latter continues to strengthen. We are pleased to offer several very attractive AU specimens in the sale with this coin right up there in terms of aesthetic appeal and freedom from injury. Pop 71; 106 finer (PCGS # 7226) .
Estimated Value $17,000 - 18,000.

Realized $16,675
