Lot 1059

1890-CC Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. Dramatic shades of violet and electric blue on both sides combined with semi reflective surfaces. First and foremost, a conditionally challenging CC-mint Morgans from the early 1890s in Gem condition, the '90-CC is a noteworthy find as Mint State 66. Although coins dribbled out of government storage in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, the 1890-CC was not heavily represented until the GSA sales of the 1970s. We do not know at what point in time the present example first surfaced in the numismatic community, but there can be little question that it is among the most appealing survivors at the MS66 level we have been privileged to offer. The surface preservation is outstanding for the grade with few bagmarks of any size. The luster quality is no less impressive, being frosty in texture with swirling cartwheel effects below the mouthwatering toning. The toning is just that, fresh, delectable, and beautiful, the outward appearance is pleasingly original. Pop 2; none finer (PCGS # 7198) .
Estimated Value $12,000 - 13,000.
