1846 $10 Liberty. NGC graded AU-55. Only 20,095 minted. Lightly toned. Smooth clean surface condition advances this coin's desirability, chiefly the absence of normal heavy abrasions gives it an edge. Strike is above-average, while a small amount of residual frostiness can be seen in places. An historical reference in the description of the 1843 $10 eagle made note of the opening of the Oregon Trail that year. Politics being what it is, the United States House of Representatives voted to stop sharing the Oregon Territory with the United Kingdom in 1846, the year of this $10 gold coin made its appearance.
