Lot 4673

1853-D $5 Liberty. Large D. PCGS graded MS-61. Amazingly well struck and problem free. The subdued frosty mint luster exhibits natural golden tones that deepen slightly at the borders. Bold centers are not normally encountered, making this piece far above average in aesthetic quality. Of importance to the specialist as well as to the general buyer are the peripheral details, including complete details of every star, except a couple which are slightly weak. This is clearly the single most available Dahlonega Mint half eagle in any grade. The present piece, however, offers a rare combination of high grade and truly outstanding visual appeal. Only 89,678 pieces struck. Pop 6; 14 finer, 8 in 62, 5 in 63, 1 in 64 (PCGS # 8255) .
Estimated Value $7,000 - 7,500.
