1842 $5 Liberty. Large letters. NGC graded MS-64 PQ. Old holder, NGC serial number 501757-003. One of the finest known. This exceptionally pleasing MS64 example has rich reddish gold patina over each side with subtle accents of yellow gold. Far from an average specimen of its decade or even a better-than-average one, this is a well-struck example with razor-sharp stars, hair, eagle, and other key details. It has no bothersome abrasions or points of wear, either, or copper spotting. Not in the least. The coin is spectacular! All this is but a portion of the coin's superlative virtues. We will assume that bidders recognize the coin's rarity and high quality and will enter strong bids, since a strong price realized really does put the piece into perspective.
