Lot 4664

1841-D $5 Liberty. Small D. NGC graded MS-61. A well struck example, light golden-yellow in color with plenty of frosty mint luster intact. Only 29,392 minted. Rich natural shades enhance the brilliant, frosty surface of this attractive early D-mint strike. 1841-D in Mint condition is an extremely important opportunity for the specialist. Two reverses are known, one with a tall mintmark (usually described as Medium D) being extremely rare, and the other with much smaller mintmark being the more plentiful. This small mintmark example is one of the few surviving in Mint State, per the NGC census: Pop 7; 12 finer, 5 in 62, 4 in 63, 1 in 64, 2 in 65 (PCGS # 8204) .
Estimated Value $10,000 - 11,000.
