Lot 4598

1911-D $2.50 Indian. PCGS graded MS-64. Housed in an old green holder. Rich golden toning. The mint mark is very bold. A popular key date. A simply beautiful example of this rare, low mintage date, the strike is noteworthy for what is often a poorly produced type. The focal features are all clear and defined, while the luster is full with a richly frosted sheen. Fresh and original as any Indian quarter eagle seen. And where a collector might be expecting to see the usual departure in the sharp relief as found on a P-mint date, mainly in the centers of the coin where the design often failed to completely fill the dies on coins struck at the Denver Mint, this standout '11-D specimen takes the opposite road by being boldness personified! Pop 282; 21 finer, 18 in 65, 3 in 66 (PCGS # 7943) .
Estimated Value $24,000 - 26,000.

Realized $25,300
