Lot 2213

German States - Hesse-Cassel. Death ¼ Taler, 1670. Schütz-1210; KM-284; Hoffm. 1447. Wilhelm VII, 1663-1670. Helmeted arms. Reverse 8-line inscription. Very Rare. NGC graded VF-30.

Wilhelm VII came to the throne as an infant. Hedwig Sophia of Brandenburg acted as regent. When Wilhelm died in 1670, he was still a child, and had never produced any coins of note. In fact, the only Taler produced during his reign was with the name of Hedwig Sophia, as regent, and with no mention of his name. Only after his death, in 1670, were death commemoratives of 1/4, 1/2, and Taler size minted in small numbers listing his name. All are very rare.
Estimated Value $2,750 - 3,000.
David Cassel Collection.
