Lot 2203

German States - Hesse-Cassel. Half Taler, 1638-LH. Schütz-1036; KM-175.1; Hof.1201. Mintmaster LH (Lubert Haussmann, 1635-1638). Wilhelm VI, 1637-1663. Star in front of crowned Hessian Lion, date below. Reverse Tree in storm, sun above with Hebrew "JEHOVAH". Toned. Rare. NGC graded VF-30.

The earlier Storm Talers and 1/2 Talers had a coat of arms, reverse, while the later ones had the crowned lion. Probably, the lion type is tougher to acquire. Fewer of them are seen. This is true of all denominations.
Estimated Value $1,700 - 1,900.
David Cassel Collection.

Realized $1,093
