German States - Hesse-Cassel. Death 2 Ducats, 1637-GK. Fr-1255; Schütz-969; KM-193; Hoffm.4645v. Mintmaster GK (Georg Kruckenberger, 1637-1640). Wilhelm V, 1627-1637. On his death. Tree in storm, sun above with Hebrew "JEHOVAH". Reverse 9-line inscription. Excessively Rare. NGC graded AU-58.

The rulers of Hesse in the 17th century, traditionally produced ducats and double ducats as death commemoratives for each preceding ruler. The mintages of these coins were exceedingly small, and all are very rare. The realized price in 1899 of 305 gold marks was a very high price at that time.
