Cambodia. Proof Piastre/Peso, 1860 (Brussels). Dav-148; KM-49; VG-3563. 25.31 grams. Milled edge. Engraved by Faconnet. Norodom I, 1860-1904. Bust of Norodom left. Reverse: Arms; bilingual inscription around. NGC graded Proof 63.

King Norodom had been installed by the more powerful Thai government. He tried to limit the Thai influence by seeking protection of France in 1867. France was only too happy to oblige, and Cambodia became a protectorate of France until 1953, when it gained its independence.
