Great Britain. Kings of All England. AR Penny, ND (Gloucester, struck c. 1024-1030). North-787; S-1158. 1.12 grams. Cnut (the Great), 1016-1035 AD. Pointed Helmet type. Moneyer, Bolla. Central circle, helmeted and draped bust left within, holding scepter, the bust extending to flan edge; + CNV TR·EXA:· around. Reverse: Central circle, short voided cross joined at center by two circles, inner pellet, and in each angle a broken annulet around inner pellet; + BTL·LA TN GL·EPE: around. Sharp full strike, with some doubling to reverse. Splendid flan and metal, with brilliant luster. Delightful, deep smoky toning intermingled with softly intense peacock iridescence. Rare.
