Great Britain. Kings of All England. AR Penny, ND (Thetford? Struck c.1017-1023). Cf. North-783; S-1157 var.; SCBI Cop.-3822. 0.87 grams. Cnut (the Great), 1016-1035 AD. Quatrefoil type. Wulfgit, Moneyer. Crowned and draped bust left, partly within quatrefoil (virtually a circle, but still with pellet at each apex), the lower part extending into the legend; + CNVT REX ANGLORV around. Reverse: Long voided cross over quatrefoil, pellet at apex of each cusp, arms terminate in trefoils; +PV(?) GIZ TOÐ EOD spaced around arms. Lustrous, cleanly struck and bold. Excellent flan and metal. Silvery to medium gray toning, with nice blues and blue-greens in the recesses. Very Rare variety with the crowned bust left extending through the inner circle (and only 3 supposedly known from this moneyer). NGC graded MS-64.
