Great Britain. Kings of All England. AR Penny, ND (Lincoln mint, struck c. 978-979). North-764; S-1143. 1.37 grams. Æthelred II, 978-1016 AD. Grind, moneyer. First Small Cross type. Central circle, diademed and draped bust left within; + ÆDEL REX AELON around. Reverse: Central circle, small cross pattee within; + GRIND M-O LINEC around. Bold, clear portrait. Sharply struck on choice metal. Medium to deep gray, with smoky to brown recesses; some lighter iridescent areas, with residual luster. Very Rare, more so in this grade, a stunning and choice example! NGC graded MS-62.
