Great Britain. Kings of Wessex. AR Penny, ND (Canterbury mint, struck c. 858-862/4). North-620; S-1053. 1.20 grams. Aethelberht, 858-865/6 AD. Inscribed cross type. Bare-headed, draped bust right; +AEÐELBEARHT REX. Reverse: Moneyer's name on and between limbs of beaded cross; +HEABEARHT MO, NETA in angles. Finely centered, bold strike on choice flan. Metal very good, with dark brown-gray hoard patina, a little granular in spots. Scarce. NGC graded EF-45.
