Great Britain. Kings of Wessex. AR Penny, ND (Canterbury mint, struck c. 828-839). North-573; S-1035. 1.32 grams. Ecgberht, 802-839 AD. Portrait/DOROB type. Schematic diademed draped bust right; + ECGBEA HT REX. Reverse: Central circle, DOROB C monogram within; + BOSEL MONETA around. Finely centered, bold strike on a full flan of good metal with only a spot or two of porosity. Even, medium gray matte toning, with touches of color and luster on the reverse. Finely preserved, and Very Rare in this special grade. NGC graded AU-55.
