Great Britain. Viking Coinage at York. AR Penny, ND (struck c. 897. Northumbria, York mint). North-511; S-998. 1.46 grams. Cnut, 895-902 AD. Mirabilia Fecit series. Central circle, large cross pattee with pellet in two opposite angles; + MIRABILIA FEI around. Reverse: Inverted patriarchal cross with C N V T at ends of limbs, REX and pellets in the angles. Bold, heavy penny on full flan, with superb metal. Ample mint luster remaining. Attractive silvery gray toning, softly reflecting greens, russets, magentas and pale copper. Sharp and choice. Scarce. NGC graded MS-63.
