Great Britain. Kings of Mercia. AR Penny, ND (East Anglian mint). North-397; S-929. 1.45 grams. Beornwulf, 823-825 AD. Type II, Portrait type. Moneyer Eacga. Bareheaded draped bust right (the drapery indicated by two back-to-back crescents); + BEORNPVLF RE around. Reverse: Central cross crosslet; + GAEVC (moneyer, Eacga) around. Crisp, clean strike, on excellent metal, on full flan. Attractive, quite even smoky brown-gray toning, with occasional mint luster discernable. An ultra-important and Extremely Rare coin. NGC graded MS-62.
