Great Britain. Kings of Mercia. AR Penny, ND (Canterbury mint, struck c. 805-810). North-344; S-915. 1.39 grams. Coenwulf, 796-821 AD. Cross and Wedges issue; Group II, Portrait type. Sigeberht, moneyer. Diademed and draped bust right; + COENVVLF REX M around. Reverse: Cross pommee with wedge in each angle; + SIGEBERHTI MONETA around. Crisp, clean strike on excellent metal, on a full flan. Attractive, quite even, dark brownish gray toning. The portrait here is of quite fine style (finer than that of the Spink plate coin). Rare. NGC graded AU-55.

This coin a parallel issue with Cuthred, as it shares like portrait and reverse designs.
