Peru. Republic. 8 Reales, 1853-MB (Lima). WR-23 var.; Eliz-169; KM-142.12. 27.02 grams. Barre Liberty type; small letters in legend. Tripartite shield of arms flanked by wreath, and crowned above by oak wreath. Reverse: Pallas Athene, as Liberty wearing peaked cap, stands frontal holding upright spear, one hand rests on shield. Better strike, but some softness to centers. Quite clean and lustrous. Medium to deep, even smoky toning - some fine coloring to recesses, especially on obverse.
One-year type with "small legends" and reeded edge. One of the finest known exmples. NGC graded MS-61.
