Peru - Republic. 8 Escudos, 1829/8 -JM (Lima). Fr-62; KM-148.1. 26.96 grams. Tri-segmented shield of arms supported by crossed flags, and crowned above by wreath. Reverse: Liberty as Pallas Athene, stands frontal supporting cap on spear, while one hand rests on shield. Very well struck for issue, and on choice flan. Lustrous, with only slight occasional marks. Rare in grade. NGC graded AU-58.

Pallas Athena,the Greek goddess of wisdom and heroic endeavor, is portrayed on many Peruvian coins. Her intelligence, cunning, and warrior skills make for a formidable combination.
