Netherlands West Indies. 3 Gulden, 1794 (Utrecht). Eliz-1; KM-4; Scholten-1353. 31.48 grams. Crowned arms. Value flanking, large W below. Reverse: Pallas Athene holding inverted spear with hat atop, and resting arm on upright book which sits upon ornate pedestal. One year type and very rare. Attractive light toning and evenly struck. NGC graded AU-58.

The 3 Gulden was an outgrowth of the Ducaton, but being the same denomination as the standard Nertherlands issues. The coin was issued for trade in the Caribbean, and to compete with the Spanish 8 Reales, and the British counterstamped or overstruck Spanish Reales.
