Space Model, "Space Shuttle Payload" Model (15x4.5") This Martin Marietta, two-part contractors model is mounted on a wooden base (18x7x.75") with a two-part engraved metal plaque. The first plaque has the company name, while the second plaque reads: "A Proposed Shuttle Payload". This utterly magnificant model is made of lucite, wood and metal and is highly detailed, even to the "Payload Specialists" working in one part of the model and the moveable telescope (?) on the other. This model was designed as an Atmospheric Science Facility by the company and would have taken up almost the entire payload bay of the Shuttle. For many years, this model was on display in the office of the consignor who was the Asst. Director for Space and Life Sciences at JSC.
Possibly unique and an extremely important model to any collector.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 5,000.
Ex. the NASA Senior Executive Peter Armitage collection.
