Russia. Large 19th Century Icon with Silver Overlay. A painted icon on wood of the Virgin with Saints and Angels, 10 1/2" by 8 5/8", this overlaid with a removeable gilt silver mirror image of the painting, pierced to show the faces of the figures beneath on the painting. These two pieces contained in the original larger parcel gilt and silvered period wood traveling frame, to overall dimensions of aprox. 19" by 14", this lacking the wood covering. Except as mentioned, with age appropriate wear and tone to the components, otherwise very good condition and most impressive.
