Artful Ivory Carvings, plus Netsukes. China, Japan and India, c. 1920's-70's. The largest two, and the oldest, are Chinese and mounted on wood bases. Carved from a curved tusk tip, a finely crafted sage, or royal figure, holding a ruyi scepter. Ivory of mellow warm tone, with black shading to the deeply carved areas, to enhance the modeled details. Also a delicate woman in finely draped raiments, perhaps the immortal He Xian Gu, holding a large flower and a staff with flowers. Ivory darkly toned, with a number of faint age cracks, and slight losses to the flowers. Along with these, are nine small figures of Japanese myth and culture, including two Buddhas, Daikoku, and others. Two are carved as netsukes. The rest are animal carvings from India, plus a napkin ring showing the Taj Mahal. Plus two ivory scrap pieces which can be fashioned into other carvings.Tallest piece: 9". Inspection suggested. Lot of 16 items.
Estimated Value $750 - 950.
