Vint. Cognac Monnet. Vintage 1927 Cognac Monnet poster, 75¾" x 49", framed in an ebony polished frame to 80¼" x 53½". Signed and dated in the plate. A barefoot flapper in a bright pink dress holds a huge glass of cognac and kisses the sun, which is smiling down into the glass. Printed below is "du soleil dans un verre" --sunshine in a glass-- and "Cognac Monnet." Printed vertically in the left border is "Les Nouvelles Affiches Cappiello. Devambez Grav.r Soc.té An.me. 32, Rue Beaujon, Paris." A wonderful display piece.
Cappiello (1875-1942) is called "the father of modern advertising" because of his innovative designs. His vivid figures contrast boldly with their black backgrounds.
