Descripsion del Reyno de Galizia. By Ioannes Baptista Vrints, c. early 1600s, 15" x 19", hand colored, matted and framed to 20½" x 23½". Title cartouche at upper left with dedication and infomation about ancient and current boundaries of Galicia. A large decorative cartouche with angels at upper right says "Hoc mysterivm firmiter profitemvr" ["We emphatically declare this to be a mystery"], and information about Galicia's natural abundancies is at lower left, along with Vrints name and the fact that he was a follower of Ortelius; a scale of Spanish leagues is at lower right. The seas hold two ships and a sea creature. Very good; some toning on left side from color transfer.
