Early American Illustrated Broadside For A Long Island Race Horse. Stud broadside, titled: "To Cover. The Noted Horse Potomak". 16½" x 8½", [New York?], 1802 May 10. Illustrated with a woodcut image of a horse being led by its bridle. With pencil notations concerning the horse on recto, written by an early owner of the broadside. Also included is a collection of approximately thirty 18th and early 19th century newspaper clippings concerning or advertising stud horses, many with pencil notations in the same hand.

The text first reviews Potomak's pedigree and describes him, then details results of his races from 1799-1801. The final statement, signed in print by Thomas C. Thorne, presumably his trainer, affirms that Potomak was "superior to any horse I have ever had in keeping." At the bottom is a postscript signed in print by stable owner William Jones. Fine; small chips in bottom margin just outside the border, separation at fold repaired with tape on verso, minor pin holes.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000.

Realized $3,105
