Donner Party Relic. Glass vial about 1¾ inches high containing remnants of the foundation log from the Murphy cabin of the Donner Party. The vial has square sides and a round neck, which is sealed with red wax. Two tags are attached: an 1893 statement of authenticity from historian C.F. McGlashan, and McGlashan’s pledge that the proceeds of the sale would go towards a monument to the Donner Party. There were 5,000 vials to be sold at $1.00 each. Most of these vials are in museums. Estimated Value $200 - 300.
