1948, 25 Mils Aluminum Coin. Highly desireable example of the very first coin issued by the State of Israel. Sylvia Haffner writes: Early in 1948, the Finance Ministry decided to mint the new coins of Israel in a local factory in Jerusalem. The 25 Mils was produced of duro aluminum. This issue was not very successful for several reasons: the production was extremely slow and the strike was very poor due to inferior equipment, the Ministry was very disappointed in the results. It was decided not to release the coins for circulation, but when the demand for small change became urgent they were put into citculation. This is the only coin of Israel to bear the date 1948." This example is a decent strike with lovely luster. NGC graded AU-58.
Estimated Value $300 - 400.
