Great Britain. William IV Document Seals: Pair of Red Wax Royal Seals of William IV, 1830-1837. The dark oak case measures 13.5" high by 20 ¾" wide by 2" deep. By Benjamin Wyon, William IV chief engraver. The exposed surface of the red wax seals is 5 7/8" extending to almost 6.4 inches in the round frames within which they are set. We believe these were made from the original silver matrix in the British Museum. The case shows great age, possibly dating to the 1830's. These could be commemorative pieces prepared from the original matrices, which are in the British Museum, Collection, in the late 19th or early 20th century. In any case, these were most likely either done by or authorized by the British Museum, which makes them 'official'. One of the seals has cracked and was repaired quite a while ago. A most unusual and attractive item and possibly quite scarce.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
