Roman Imperatorial Period. Julius Caesar, d. 44 BC. AR Denarius, Greece, traveling military mints, 48-47 BC. Head of Clementia(?) right, wreathed in oak; number LII behind (= 52, Caesar's age in 48 BC). Reverse: Trophy of Gallic arms, axe surmounted by an animal's head on right; CAE - SAR. Craw. 452/2; BMCRR 3955; Sear II 1400; RSC 18. Bold, even strike; well centered, on small thick flan. Pleasing old toning, with areas of luster and iridescence. Extremely Fine.
