Ptolemaic Egypt. Arsinöe II, wife of Ptolemy II Philadelphos, d. 270 BC. Seemingly Rare with this control letter. Gold Octadrachm (27.75 g), Alexandria mint, struck under Ptolemy II, c. 253-246 BC. Diademed and veiled head right; lotus scepter behind head; Δ to left. Reverse: Double cornucopiae, filleted; regnal titles around. Svoronos pl. XV, 8; BMC Ptolemies --; Troxell, Arsinoe, Group 3; SNG Copenhagen 134 var. (letter). Overall a good strike, only slightly weak at the ear. Clean-looking coin, with abundant luster. About Extremely Fine.
