1878, $5 United States Note. . Fr-69. . KL-199. PCGS graded Gem New 66 PPQ. A gorgeous early "Woodchopper" of exceptional quality! The woodchopper Type had a long life from 1869 until 1928. Various series dates were produced, with this 1875 dated specimen featuring a head of Andrew Jackson, seventh President of the United States, 1829-1837, from a painting by Thomas Sully, engraved by Alfred Sealey. At the center, the Pioneer Family, as it is also called, was engraved by Henry Gugler. A large red floral ornament around WASHINGTON D.C., seal at left.
