1883 Hawaiian Dollar. PCGS graded EF-45. Antique toning with purple hues on the reverse, most of the beard detail plainly evident on the King. A one-year Type. Hawaii has had a checkered past: its first rulers were Native chieftains until 1887, some of whom were more highly educated than today's D.C. politicians. In that year, the process of imperial overthrow by American commercial interests finally revealed itself in the so-called Bayonet Constitution forced upon King Kalakaua. A few years later, the McKinley administration declared Hawaii a Territory of the United States (1900). Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959 (PCGS # 10995) .
Estimated Value $600 - 650.
