1858 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded Proof 65 Deep Cameo CAC Verified. Encased in PCGS holder 13909342. A wonderful Gem Proof. This coin was in a first generation holder and graded Proof 64. Sent back to PCGS for regrade and now is tied for the finest deep cameo graded at PCGS. Mintage unknown. Approximately 25 Proofs struck. Never fearing contradiction, we can state without hesitancy that every Proof gold dollar struck prior to 1860 is great rarity. The 1858 is legendary, one of the most difficult dates to acquire since so few are ever offered. This specimen has none of the usual lint marks or planchet flakes associated with early Proof gold coins. In fact, the surfaces are of a deeply mirrored nature with simply beautiful warm yellow-golden color. As often happens, the reflective background frames the contrasting devices whose frosted surface serves to create a well-known cameo manifestation. Clearly, this is a coin for the specialist! Pop 2; None finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 97608) .
Estimated Value $30,000 - 35,000.

Realized $43,700
