Lot 2276

1851-D $1 Gold Liberty. NGC graded MS-62. Untoned. This is among the more affordable Dahlonega Mint gold dollars. This date has long been regarded as one to acquire since examples tend to be better struck than other issues. The strike is extremely sharp, with full radials noted on the stars. The hair has fully defined curls except over the ear where some strands are fused, while the wreath is bold. There is a prominent die crack on the reverse and both sides show die clash marks. The surfaces are very brilliant for the grade. Only 9,882 minted. Pop 24; 11 finer, 5 in 63, 5 in 64, 1in 65 (PCGS # 7515) .
Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500.
